Last week we sat down with Stacey Gregg to talk about her psychological thriller and directorial debut ‘Here Before’ and the work she put in as writer/director.
The film centers around grieving mother (Andrea Riseborough) who recently lost her daughter. After her new neighbors move in she immediately notices they have a daughter and begins to she’s haunted by her dead daughter.
From the opening scene you can tell this film was personal and thoroughly planned, as the general atmosphere immediately draws you in. Paired with a haunting score (or lack thereof), Here Before keeps you locked in for the short duration.
Last week we spoke to Stacey Gregg and asked her all sorts of questions relating to the writing process as well as how she was able to handle the role of “writer/director.”
“I worked in lots of different forms myself — I’ve done theater. So, I think I’m quite eclectic anyway in the way I tell stories, and they worked. I never saw myself solely as a writer… having said that, having done so much from that perspective I tend to write something with my writers hat on the first instance, then completely change that hat.”
