He’s just as hilarious as his characters.
David Koechner has been a sure sign of a good comedic film for over a decade. Check out our talk with him and the hilarious new character he brings to life. Check out the film on October 30.
How would you describe your character?
DK: A zombie. That’s your shortest distance to the character. Believe it or not he’s a little bit complex for such a broad ridiculously fun movie. Scout Leader Rogers has a little something going on. He’s a scout leader, he lives alone, a die-hard Dolly Parton obsessed enthusiast, he’s got a taupe, he loves guiding youth to his twin passions: scouting and Dolly Parton. That has a lot of complexities. Then all of that becomes a zombie and still lives through him as the undead.
What was your favorite scene to shoot?
DK: Mine personally was probably the basement scene. I get lit on fire and smashed with a boat oar.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast?
DK: They’re so enthusiastic, great energy , we work mostly nights so it was darling and endearing to work with this crew.
What’s your favorite Halloween movie?
DK: Well, I’m going to go with Charlie Brown which is really not a movie, it’s a TV episode. However the original Halloween movie set by the lake, oh my god. So lo- fi but scary so well done. When they’re laying on the bed and Kevin Bacon gets it through the throat with the arrow, and the gal that plays the mom who was crazy son of Mike Myers just passed this year but she was fantastic. She did a good job.
What is your favorite role you’ve done?
DK: I’ve done so many great ones honestly. If I don’t say Champ Kind and Top Packer people will be like “what the f***”’. Those are great and I appreciate it so much but there are other ones such as Cheap Thrills and that was a departure for me, something else to play . It was so much fun, and such a great cast and then in Extract I played this annoying nudge of a neighbor, it’s a Mike Judge film, I played Nathan. I could play that character every day for the next ten years and would be very happy.
What is your dream project?
DK:Yes, I’m writing a film right now with one of my screen writing partners Norm based on this character I’ve done before called Gerald Tibbons. We are putting our final touches on that screen play and I’m hoping to get to do that one.
How would you describe this movie?
DK: The title kind of says everything but here is what I would describe it as. It’s a coming of age tale, inside a comedy, inside a horror film, with young horn dog romance all under the guided, steady temperate umbrella of Scout leader Rogers.
