Lights, camera, action, and Schmigadoon!

Attention Broadway lovers! Apple TV+’s newest series, “Schmigadoon!” is guaranteed to have you singing and dancing after every episode. The musical comedy, executive produced by Lorne Michael, is a parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, inspired by the works of “Oklahoma!” “The Music Man,” and more.

Join NBC’s “Saturday Night Live’s” Cecily Strong and Emmy Award winner Keegan-Michael Key as they go on an adventurous backpacking trip, hoping to patch up their rocky relationship, but ended up taking a wrong turn. On their journey, Strong and Key discover a magical town where everyone breaks into song every few minutes. The couple finds themselves in a never-ending musical and the only way out is if they find “true love.”

The first season also stars Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski, and Ann Harada. Martin Short additionally makes a special guest appearance.

“Schmigadoon!” is co-created by Cinco Paul, known for his work on “Despicable Me,” and Ken Daurio. Paul serves as showrunner and wrote all of the original songs for the series. Barry Sonnenfeld directs and executive produces. In addition to starring, Cecily Strong serves as producer in the musical parody series.

The Knockturnal exclusively chatted with Strong and asked what her favorite part about being part of “Schmigadoon!” was.

“That’s really tough. I really enjoyed just about every scene,” Strong responded. “The last scene where we’re all dancing at the end…I think it was the first time we had everyone in the room at the same time. It was so emotional, it was so joyful…I [couldn’t] believe I was in this room with these people in this magic town.”

The first two episodes of “Schmigadoon!” premieres Friday, July 16, 2021, exclusively on Apple TV+.
