Exclusive: Cast talks Season 2 of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ at NYC Premiere [Video]

The cast reunites at the Conrad Hotel in New York City for the premiere of Season 2 of the popular CBS All Access series, “Star Trek: Discovery.”

The series follows the adventures of the crew from the USS Discovery before the time of Captain Kirk. Season 1 had ended with such a tease for fans as the discovery found itself face to face with the USS Enterprise. Aside from Season 2 picking up from the cliff hanger given from Season 1, Commander Michael Burnham, played by actress Sonequa Martin-Green, ultimately finds out surprising family details that leads the series to its popular character, Spock.

This Star Trek series is the most diverse cast yet with the lead being African-American actress, Sonequa Martin-Green with a promising future in Starfleet along with one of Asia’s most successful actresses, Michelle Yeoh that plays Captain Philippa Georgiou. Along with these characters includes the first gay couple of the Star Trek series in history played by actors Anthony Rapp as Lieutenant Stamets and Latino actor Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber.  With not only a super diverse cast, the character Spock is finally introduced in the second season- (Spoiler Alert!) as the half-brother of Commander Michael Burnham! Actor Ethan Peck, the grandson of Academy award winner Gregory Peck, plays the iconic role of Spock. The first person to ever play Spock was the late Leonard Nimoy that eventually turned it into the iconic role it is now. When I spoke with Ethan Peck on the red carpet, he mentioned that he met with the Nimoy family to get more of an understanding of the role of Spock. The best advice he got from the Nimoy family- to be curious, and that’s exactly the mindset he went in with when playing the role of Spock on set.

Being that the Star Trek series is so generational, the series has not only drawn past fans of previous series but millennials because of a new spin offered by the CBS All Access series.

The major question at hand to our super-fans is: Who do you think would win if the Discovery got into a one-on-one battle with the Enterprise? In order to answer that, you’re going to have to watch the series exclusively streamed on CBS All Access.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 premiered on CBS All Access January 17th.
