Xochitl Gomez and Aaron Dominguez Talk New Film ‘Hive’

Tubi’s latest and highly anticipated film ‘Hive’ is out now, where Xochitl Gomez and Aaron Dominguez star as siblings trying to survive a horrifying nightmare that traps them in a fight for survival.

The film explores a frightening adventure of a babysitter and the child she watches that happens to encounter a dark presence that is lurking among the children at the playground.

Sasha (Xochitl Gomez) and Marco (Aaron Dominguez) are being pulled from an ordinary life into a world of fear and survival.

The Knockturnal sat down with the cast, where they both opened up about the process of playing siblings in the film. When asked, “How did you build the chemistry so that your relationship felt natural as siblings, ” Gomez responded, “we had already been friends prior to filming this movie, so it was really easy.” Dominguez agreed with Gomez and said their relationship already felt like that of a big brother and little sister.

Playing Sasha, Gomez expressed that there were certain priorities she had to face as her character encountered obstacles as the babysitter. An obstacle Gomez faced as Sasha was deciding if she should listen to the child who would ask for certain things or listen to the  mother because she had a connection to her dream college.

Working closely with the film’s director, Felipe Vargas, Gomez revealed her creative input on the script, emphasizing the importance of including “fina straw” moments between the child and babysitter in certain scenes. The incorporation helped paint the picture of what babysitters go through making the story more relatable.

With the hope of audiences understanding Marco, Dominguez expressed that his character is “suppressing a lot himself, to protect his sister”. Both characters struggle in their own way, trying their best to support each other as the dark presence that lives in the playground continues to encounter more people and infect them.

As Gomez explains her character in the film she shared, “When she’s thrown into a situation, the person that, you know, should have your back and is always there to support you and take care of you and walk you through this whole situation, and this whole job, and something arises and I’m trying to explain it, to not have that person believe you is something that I think people can sometimes relate to.”

Throughout the film, as a series of strange and unsettling events unfold, the fear of not being believed leaves the character feeling afraid and alone

Both characters take on disturbing incidents, leading to both siblings coming together to ultimately  help each other survive. Dominguez reflected that there is a where and why he didn’t express enough love for his sister. He said, “you see him come a full 360 moment to fully express this moment with his sister.”

As the lurking presence gets darker and more dangerous,  Gomez and Dominguez’s characters go through a rollercoaster of survival and connection.

‘Hive’ is streaming now on Tubi, go watch to see if Marco stops Sasha from being the hero or brings her down with him.
