Exclusive: ‘Blood & Water’ Star Ama Qamata Discusses the show, Rainbow Nation, and the beauty of South Africa [Video]

In May of this year, Netflix South Africa released Blood & Water which was streamed in 190 countries and gained popularity not just in South Africa but the United States, the U.K., France, and several other countries.

The show was able to unite viewers and fans from around the world who became fully engulfed in the life of Puleng and her search for her missing sister. The Netflix series is the second show the popular streaming service has commissioned from not just the country but from the entire continent of Africa. Blood & Water isn’t your typical teen television series. The show has not only drama but a web of secrets, mysteries, love triangles, and possibly a large scandal being uncovered by teenage Puleng with the help of newfound friend Wade. Blood & Water also shows the beauty and talent in South Africa to a global audience.

When speaking with one of the lead actresses Ama Qamata, she not only is excited about the second season but what the show has been able to do in one season. Ama believes the show was able to showcase the diversity of the rainbow nation.

Puleng became an inspiration for audiences because even though viewers were scattered around the world and spoke a variety of different languages they felt seen through the character. The show was able to not only offer a suspenseful storyline but showed how relatable the teens in Blood & Water were to teens around the globe.

Not only is the character Puleng relatable, but Ama herself is as well. Ama became the star of a show that gained popularity around the world and overnight grew a global fanbase. However, even though the show was successful Ama remains humble, and is extremely thankful for the support and love she, the cast, and the team have gotten from their fans.
