In the hilarious new comedy, “The Hustle,” Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson star as female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, who team up to take down the dirty rotten men who have wronged them.
We sat down with the film’s stars. Check out what they had to say!
The Knockurnal: Congratulations on the movie. My first question is, can you share what you admire about each other?
Anne Hathaway: Oh my gosh, where to start. You know Rebel, I have to mention, produced this movie and she helped co-write it, and she wrote the music for it, and she designed the sets.
Rebel Wilson: A lot. A lot of stuff. I’m very busy.
Anne Hathaway: Very, very busy.
Rebel Wilson: Yeah.
Anne Hathaway: But in all seriousness, Rebel did so much. This idea originated with her. Everything she tries, she crushes. She’s a badass.
Rebel Wilson: Aw.
Anne Hathaway: … and a joy to be around. So I mean, there’s nothing really I don’t admire about you.
Rebel Wilson: Aw.
Anne Hathaway: Follow that.
Rebel Wilson: I have no comment. No. Anne is just the most delicious actress out there right now. I mean, she can do comedy, drama, musicals, anything.
Anne Hathaway: That’s true about you, too.
Rebel Wilson: Anything you throw at her. And yeah, not only that, she’s just a lovely person and a joy to work with.
Anne Hathaway: Thank you, honey.
The Knockurnal: You guys have played many awesome characters in your careers. If you could hustle and scam one of your former characters, who would you choose and why?
Anne Hathaway: That’s a good question.
Rebel Wilson: I’d maybe try to hustle Fat Amy because she’s so confident. It could be enjoyable to scam her.
Anne Hathaway: I think I’d like to try to hustle Selina Kyle because I think it’d be so hard. I don’t think she would be an easy one to con, so I think it’d be very involved.
Rebel Wilson: Was that your character in-
Anne Hathaway: Dark Knight Rises … So I don’t think I could do it on my own. So, I think I’d have to recruit the cast of Oceans 8, and you.
Rebel Wilson: Yeah.
Anne Hathaway: And then create this ultimate girls team.
Rebel Wilson: We could all scam her.
Anne Hathaway: And then take Selina Kyle down.
The Knockurnal: That sounds like the next movie, actually.
Rebel Wilson: Yeah.
The Knockurnal: That sounds like the sequel.
Anne Hathaway: Perfect.
The Knockurnal: Can you speak about how important it is to play these empowering roles? Because I thought these women were really strong and kicked butt.
Anne Hathaway: You know, it’s funny. I can’t think of many roles that aren’t empowering. The same way I can’t think of many women that aren’t strong. You know?
Rebel Wilson: Yeah.
Anne Hathaway: You know? I feel like that qualifier… I think it’s a story of women who believe in themselves. And I think that representation is really important because what you can see, you can imagine for yourself. And so even though we are doing morally dubious things…
Rebel Wilson: Yeah, we are. We are con artists.
Anne Hathaway: There is something great about watching women who believe that they deserve something. I think that’s good.
Rebel Wilson: Yeah. I mean, I found audiences have really responded well to my very confident characters. And it’s really great, because I get to travel all around the world being an actress. When I see young ladies from cultures where they’re not really encouraged to be so confident, I love how they can see me onscreen and that can inspire them. It’s really awesome.
