Donald Trump officially confirmed on Friday that he has chosen Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his pick for Vice President.
Trump postponed his formal announcement after the terrorist attack in Nice, France.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that as president, he would have Congress declare war on the Islamic State. He also stated that he would “not allow people to come in from terrorist nations. I would do extreme vetting. I would call it extreme vetting, too.”
“I am pleased to announce that I have chosen Governor Mike Pence as my Vice Presidential running mate,” Trump tweeted when announcing he would hold a news conference on Saturday with Pence. Trump chose Pence after also considering former House speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
“I have great respect for Governor Pence,” Trump told Bill O’Reilly prior to his official selection. “But I also have great respect for Newt. I have great respect for Chris, Chris Christie. We have some tremendous people in the Republican Party.”
