Demi Lovato to be Honored at the GLAAD Awards

Demi Lovato will be honored with the Vanguard award at the 27th  Annual GLAAD-Media Awards.

Lovato is receiving the award for her work to promote equality and acceptance for LGBT. The artists has sited her grandfather, who came out as gay in the ’60s, as her inspiration for speaking out on LGBT rights. She has participated in pride celebrations in both New York City and Los Angeles. She reinforced her stance further when she filmed her music video for “Really Don’t Care” at the Los Angeles pride celebrations. Her role as lesbian character in Fox’s Glee in 2013 was also a reason for her receiving the award.

The GLAAD-Media Awards honor those in the media who present and accurate and fair representation of LGBT particularly young people. Funds from the awards aid GLAAD in continuing their work amplify the issues that affect the community. GLAAD President  and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said of honoring Lovato that, “She is an extraordinary ally who is committed to helping young people embrace who they are and live the lives they love.”

Lovato and more will be honored at the awards on April 2 and the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be televised for the first time in nearly a decade exclusively on Logo on April 4 at 10 p.m.

GLAAD has  147  nominees, both English and Spanish speaking, for this years awards. They will be hosting another media award ceremony on May 14 in New York at the Waldorf Astoria.
