Last weekend, Complex once again proved why it remains the definitive platform for global youth culture, sports, and music lifestyle by curating an unforgettable lineup of events during basketball’s biggest weekend in the Bay. From exclusive conversations with sports icons to the unveiling of an innovative art collaboration, Complex seamlessly merged sports, culture, and lifestyle, delivering moments that captivated audiences and pushed the conversation forward.

Kicking off the star-studded weekend, NBA Hall-of-Famer Gary Payton sat down with Complex Editor-in-Chief Aria Hughes for a live audience taping of Please Explain by Aria Hughes. The conversation, powered by Soluna, a CalHOPE mental health program, delved into the importance of mental well-being, gratitude, and personal coaching styles in basketball. Payton candidly addressed the stigma surrounding mental health, emphasizing that “it’s okay for men to cry” and highlighting how he tailors his coaching methods to different players.

The intimate discussion also shined a light on Soluna’s resources, which provide free mental health support for young adults aged 13-25. Attendees walked away with valuable insights and a deeper understanding of mental health in the sports world.

Following the Please Explain conversation, guests were treated to the Agave All-Stars pop-up, a celebration of the groundbreaking collaboration between 1800 Tequila and artist Mr. Flower Fantastic. The event featured the unveiling of a limited-edition basketball sneaker decanter, a stunning fusion of sports and luxury design. The 1800 Cristalino Court installation transported attendees to the heart of Jalisco’s blue agave fields, offering a visually immersive experience that highlighted the craftsmanship behind the spirit.

Notable guests, including designer Jeff Hamilton and influencer 19 Keys, enjoyed handcrafted 1800 Tequila cocktails, tested their skills at the custom shot clock, and vibed to live music from DJ Supernova. The exclusive decanter officially became available for purchase on February 18 via 1800MFFDecanter.com, marking a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a media company and a spirits brand.

On February 14, Complex host and producer Speedy Morman sat down with WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson at the Chase Cashback Courts in San Francisco for a candid conversation about her career, pre-game rituals, and what it means to be a game-changer. Dressed in a head-turning blue ensemble with custom frames and Margiela Tabis, Wilson shared personal anecdotes and insights into her journey as one of the most dominant players in women’s basketball.

The moment was made even more special when multi-disciplinary artist Mr. Flower Fantastic presented Wilson with a custom white and blue floral bouquet, symbolizing her impact on the game. Fans in attendance were also treated to exclusive giveaways, including custom-designed basketballs, totes, and crewnecks. To top it all off, NBA legend Steph Curry made a surprise appearance, thrilling the audience with his unexpected visit.

The evening continued with an action-packed schedule featuring Speedy Morman hosting various events, including the Cashback Shot Clock game with Lethal Shooter and GELO, followed by a high-energy trivia session with Lethal Shooter and Moses Moody. Later Morman sat down with Lethal Shooter and Moody for an insightful panel discussion before the night closed with performances by Thuy and LaRussell, capping off an exhilarating day of basketball, culture, and entertainment.

The final day of events saw Chase Freedom’s Cashback Courts take center stage again, offering fans and basketball enthusiasts an interactive and dynamic experience. Hosted by Speedy Morman, the event featured a packed schedule of celebrity showdowns, open court qualifiers, and candid fireside chats with sports icons. Attendees were treated to unlimited ways to engage with the game, from earning rewards to enjoying delicious eats from top Bay Area vendors.

Multi-disciplinary artist Mr. Flower Fantastic also made his mark by designing custom basketballs, totes, and crewnecks, which were gifted to fans throughout the day. As a highlight, he unveiled an eight-foot-tall Chase-themed jersey, adding a visually striking element to the celebration. Special moments included Speedy Morman’s panel discussions with notable athletes like Natalie Nakase, Kate Martin, and Kayla Thornton, along with interactive on-court activities featuring NBA legend Kevin Garnett and Lethal Shooter.

As the day wrapped up, fans were treated to an unforgettable surprise performance by Saweetie, bringing the high-energy weekend to an electrifying close.

Complex’s presence during basketball’s biggest weekend was a testament to its ability to blend sports, entertainment, and culture in a way that resonates with fans. Whether through thought-provoking conversations, artistic collaborations, or immersive brand experiences, Complex continues to set the standard for engaging and shaping the cultural zeitgeist.

From championing mental health awareness with Gary Payton to celebrating creativity and craftsmanship with 1800 Tequila, Complex delivered an unforgettable weekend that showcased the power of storytelling and innovation at the intersection of sports and culture.
