Summer is here and the rooftops are open
On April 25th, Cantina Rooftop located at W 48th street on 11th avenue, hosted a celebration party in honor of their newest menu. The Mexican inspired menu was designed by chef Saul Montiel and the new cocktails were created by mixologist Miquel Sanchez. The tasting menu that was served had some classics such as tuna tartare, tostadas, and of course, guac. The drink menu that we got to try included the Spicy Summer, the Guava Sangria, and La Celerina. The spicy summer was my favorite and it included spicy tequila, watermelon, lime, and agave syrup. The spice in this drink is real and hits you at the end, but luckily the watermelon is able to mellow out the spice and keep the drink refreshing. The Guava Sangria is made with white wine, triple sec, brandy, and simple syrup. This drink was refreshing as well and not overly sweet as we would have thought. It goes down smooth for those who don’t like any kick, this drink is for you. And the last drink was La Celerina which was made with mescal, celery and pineapple puree, lime, and agave syrup. This drink isn’t that sweet but still refreshing. There are the hints of sweetness from the pineapple puree but mostly this drink is more tangy and closer to the taste of a classic margarita.
As summer is approaching, it’s now time to start planning which rooftop bars to hit up. And if you are ever deep into the west side of midtown, hit up Cantina Rooftop for their delicious drink and tasty food. You can never go wrong with a Mexican themed night out (just don’t drink too much tequila though).
