Bella Thorne and Malin Akerman go head-to-head in their new film “Chick Fight.” The film follows Akerman’s character Anna as she joins an all-female underground fight club as a way to get her life together. The suggestion comes from her bestie (Dulce Sloan) when Anna’s life seems to be falling apart.
Not only does Akerman star in the film but she is also one of the producers too. As for Thorne, joining the project seemed like a no brainer since she had been wanting to do a fight project and was even a fan of Akerman.
“When I saw that Malin was signed on to be the lead I was like oh sh*t. I was also a really big fan of Watchmen when it came out so you know that was so sick to me like bucket list stuff,” Thorne said. She portrays Olivia, the tough bad-ass chick of the fight club who intimidates new girl Anna into a fight.
Left with no choice, Anna seeks out a trainer to help her with the fighting skills she needs. That trainer happens to be played by none other than Alec Baldwin. When asked about the real-life training that went in to get ready for their roles both actresses said their training was actually quite minimal.
“We didn’t have much time it was such a quick turnaround in this film and we had one day maybe two days of rehearsals and we were doing it while we’re shooting – it’s not like we had prep time beforehand. It was quick but luckily Bella and I had some background and we were able to make it work.”
While the film definitely packs a punch, the empowering message behind it is one we can all resonate with especially during these tough times. Life might punch you in the face sometimes but it’s about how willing you are to pick yourself back up and punch back.
Chick Fight stars Malin Akerman, Bella Thorne, Alec Baldwin, Dulcé Sloan, Kevin Connolly, Fortune Feimster, and Kevin Nash. The movie hits Theaters, Digital and On-Demand on November 13th.
