NYFW: We stepped backstage to learn about the makeup and hair for Erin Fetherston’s 10th anniversary show at NYFW.
Backstage at any show is often a chaotic scene with too many people and too little space. And at Erin Fetherston, backstage was particularly jammed with not just models and artists, but guests too. It’s Fetherston’s 10th anniversary show, and so the Voga Prosecco was on pour and sandwiches were being snacked on. Fetherston has been diversifying, too. She’s entered the world of home goods with a collection of mud cloth pillows, hammocks, blankets, and more. The collection she walked was perfect match for the home goods, with light denim and mildly boho dresses and gowns.
The hair matched perfectly the quietly energetic (call it feminine) clothing, with windswept attitudes held together with a downward energy, the responsibility of Davines Joseph DiMaggio. The look incorporated gentle curls and Davines hairsprays. “The girls should look airy and free, they are free spirits with a touch of taste and elegance” DiMaggio spoke as he was passed a curler then a bottle of spray. “Since these products are all-natural, it’s a good extension of the collection concept that [Erin] was interested in.” And just like that, he was back to focussing on his team. This ad hoc assembly was necessary for a show was over 30 looks and only one Joseph DiMaggio. Check out Davines products here.
As for makeup, it was no frills, dewy freshness all around. Utilizing Skyn Iceland‘s natural products (a trend here!), the girl’s skin looks didn’t take quite as long as the hair- in fact, a girl was finished in about 10 minutes, proving Skyn Iceland is perfect for the girl-on-the-go. “First we applied an eye gel (Which Erin personally endorses) to give a very honest look, then an Arctic Hydrating Balm to give the humidity. Then we worked the lips to lighten them up. The whole point is to give a fresh, dewy look, where makeup takes a backseat. Overpowering makeup is out”.
