Exclusive Interview: Aziza Scott Turns Lifelong Dream into Reality With Breakout Role In ‘Home Before Dark’ [Video]

We don’t find our calling—our calling finds us. And at the tender age of four, Aziza Scott was first visited by hers, a perpetual love of acting and theatre. It was this love that landed her a breakout role in Apple TV+’s Home Before Dark, the actress discussed with The Knockturnal.

Mystery drama Home Before Dark centers around a young girl perceptive of her calling at an early age, much like Aziza. Hilde Lisko, played by Brooklyn Prince, is a child investigative journalist who enlists the help of Deputy Mackenzie “Trip” Johnson III (Scott) in solving a decades-old cold case.

Trip is a recurring character throughout Home Before Dark. For Scott, the role follows past appearances on episodes of The Fosters, Insecure, and Twenties. Like her current role, Scott’s first major gig also focused on crime investigation, an episode of Murder in the First alongside Taye Diggs.

Besides Prince, Scott joins the Apple TV+ cast of Jim Sturgess, Abby Miller, Kylie Rogers, Joelle Carter, Jibrail Nantambu, Deric McCabe, Michael Weston, and Louis Herthum.

The first season premiered in April 2020 with 10 episodes on the streaming platform. Ahead of the premiere, Apple TV+ execs renewed the series for a second season, in which Scott hinted at a more in-depth look at Trip than the last season. Filming started earlier this year before interrupted by the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, executive producers told The Knockturnal.
