Las Vegas offers a wide variety of live shows. From big-name concerts and provocative burlesques to stand-up comedy and magic performances, the one production that is unlike anything else in Sin City is Awakening at the Wynn Las Vegas. This visually stunning theatrical show is an original story, which features beautiful artistry, jaw-dropping acrobatics, spellbinding theatrics, animatronics, large-scale puppetry, and spectacular special effects all in one highly entertaining spectacle. Awakening is an unforgettable experience that is absolutely worth seeing.
The 80-minute production is pure fun, and it’s a magical tale that appeals to all ages. Academy Award-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, best known for his role in The Silence of the Lambs, narrates the one-of-a-kind storyline that follows a mythical heroine named IO, who goes on a quest to reunite light and darkness in order to restore beauty and love to the world, with her travel companions Bandit and Boo. During their journey through different realms (darkness, fire, water, earth, and air), they encounter fantastical creatures, spiritual dancing rituals, and learn important life lessons.
In each realm, extraordinary visuals like intricate costumes (more than 300 outfits are featured), lasers, and giant props are showcased alongside pulsating modern musical score and circus acts. Guests will see death-defying feats by talented acrobats that include aerialists, fire spinners, and tightrope walkers. There will be many moments where guests will ask, “How did they do that?” The audience will also be wowed by the elaborate, choreographed dance numbers and by puppets created by award-winning designer Michael Curry. For example, the water world features an enormous humpback whale puppet that swims around the theater. And later on in the show, a majestic Phoenix appears out of thin air that will leave the audience in awe.
Awakening is created by Curry, Bernie Yuman (he managed Las Vegas icons Siegfried & Roy), and Baz Halpin, who is also the show’s director and worked on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour. Thanks to this dynamic trio, the show—composed of a 60-member international cast—infuses incredible storytelling, but also utilizes the latest technologies and special effects. Held at Wynn’s state-of-the-art circular theatre, the venue’s 360-degree seating allows all of the 1,600 guests to feel entirely immersed in the show with clear sightlines of the performers. The glass stage moves up and down, rotates, and splits into different levels seamlessly with the striking lights and special effects. Custom LED screens have been built into the stage, providing a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors and beauty. On the ceiling are amazing glass bridges that serve as staircases for the cast. There’s no bad seat in the house, and every seat has two built-in speakers on either side of your head, so you will have a surround sound experience.
Awakening at the Wynn Las Vegas is truly an unmatched experience and outshines other major productions on the Strip. The storytelling, remarkable visuals, the gravity-defying acrobats, the original musical score by Emmy-nominated composer Brian Tyler, the technical aspects of the set design, and the high level of artistry all make the show a must-see.
