Anton Yelchin, the actor known for his role in the new “Star Trek” films, died early Sunday morning after being pinned by his own car.
Authorities have reported that his vehicle rolled down his driveway and pinned him against his brick mailbox and security gate, subsequently killing him.
Yelchin’s friends visited his San Fernando Valley home after 1 AM on Sunday because he had not met them for rehearsal. They discovered his body.
Yelchin, 27, is known for several roles on TV shows and movies; he began acting as a child. He appeared on shows like ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. He received praise for his role in the 2007 movie Alpha Dog. Recently, he starred as Pavel Chekov in Star Trek, Star Trek into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond, which will be released next month.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office confirmed the death. Selena Barros, an investigator in the coroner’s office, has stated there are “no obvious suspicious circumstances involved.” Jennifer Allen, Yelchin’s publicist, confirmed his death. His family has asked for privacy.
