A preview of an exciting new show showcased Mexican culture through incredible dancing, intricate costumes, and remarkable piano playing.

Held in a studio overlooking Times Square, this preview of the upcoming show “Day of the Dead LIVE!” highlighted some of the amazing performances that will be part of this Día de los Muertos themed musicale.
The performance is a celebration of Mexico that exemplifies the many aspects of El Día de los Muertos. In order to capture the variety of different facets of the holiday, 26-year-old pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner plays a diverse array of songs. Songs like “Bésame Mucho” reveal a romantic side- with bittersweet, melancholy moments. On the other hand, songs like “El Jarabe Tapatio” portray a much more joyous celebration.
The team behind the musicale is very aware of the rich history of Mexico, stating that “El Jarabe Tapatio” was originally a dance of defiance by the Miexcan people towards European colonization.
In the preview, Sanchez-Werner played beautifully while many dancers and puppeteers wearing colorful and ornate costumes moved around the stage and piano. The synchronization of the various musicians and dancers was truly a marvel.
The full show will run in October and November of this year at Brooklyn Art Haus– which opened this week.
People of all ages can view this action-packed performance whether they are fans of Mexican classical music or are more so fans of pop melodies. “Day of the Dead LIVE!” will be a fun and amazing way for viewers to take in the vibrancy of Mexican culture.
