Amazon To Distribute ‘Elvis & Nixon’ Starring Michael Shannon

He’s Frank Underwood. He’s Keyser Soze. He’s John Doe. (Not spoiler alerts– it’s been 20 years, see the movies). He’s Dave Harken. He’s Jonathan Irons. He’s Lex Luthor. But worse of all, he’s Richard Nixon.

Alright, so he’s a bad guy. . . in most of his movies. But, Kevin Spacey is now going to play Richard Nixon in the biopic Elvis & Nixon, which also stars Michael Shannon as Elvis Presley.

In a new movie from Amazon, the film will be released in theaters only. It is also important to note that the original series from a website started with Netflix’s House of Cards which Spacey stars and produces.

The film will detail the December 21, 1970 meeting between Presley and Nixon when Presley visited Nixon at the White House, after Presley wrote Nixon a six page letter. He requested a meeting with the president to make him the “Federal Agent-at-Large” of the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Although Presley was turned down for the position, Nixon did entertain him with the meeting and the infamous picture of the two of them shaking hands.

Liza Johnson directed the film which was written by ex-husband and wife duo Joey and Hanala Sagal, and Cary Elwes. Evan Peters, Alex Pettyfer, Tate Donovan, and Colin Hanks will also star in the movie. Sky Ferreira’s and Johnny Knoxville’s names are also attached to the project. Filming was completed in New Orleans earlier this year and is now in post-production as the project eyes an early 2016 premiere date.
