Ashley Edwards only goes by her stage name A$H. (Ash). The Oklahoma City native beamed at her listening party for her first album titled It’s Just Art which dropped on March 22, 2019, and is already in the top five on iTunes R&B/Soul chart.

The intimate gathering, held on March 7 in the BMI office in NYC, called for lots champaign and laughs as Edwards’ natural southern charm made listeners feel right at home.

The passion filled, Spelman alum danced to her own music which is reminiscent of eighties dance music with elements of hip hop and pop.

Some of the songs played during the evening included “FLO$$ (Floss),” the background song for when girls are noticing dudes notice them, and the breakup song, “U+I (You and I).” Attendees alss vibes to the well known single off the album that was released last November, “Easy;” and a disco anthem titled “Know Ya,” which is ultimately about being too busy being fabulous to get to know ya.

In addition to singing her hits, the former theatre student writes her own material as well. “Writing is something I’ve done my whole life,” Edwards said. “When I’m in a creative space internally, things just come to me and I’m a willing vessel for them to come.”

When she’s not in this creative space, Edwards is a family gal who prioritizes self-care as more than just a trend. “Health is wealth so I’m usually waking up, taking apple cider vinegar and black root tonic.” She continues, “I try to do yoga and center myself before I hop on my phone onto social media. Checking in with myself is the main thing that I do to stay grounded.”

As for the near future, A$H sees herself back on the stage as she was when she opened for Maroon 5’s PJ Morton on his Gumbo tour last fall. “Once the album drops in a few weeks I’m ready to get back on the stage and connect with the fans and make some more fans.”

“My degree was in theatre so I’d definitely love to get into film and acting one day.”
