Red Bull Sound Select New York Brings G Herbo To Brooklyn

Last week Red Bull Sound Select New York brought G Herbo to New York for an amazing show in Brooklyn.

G Herbo, formerly known as Lil Herb grew up in “Terror Town” Chicago and rose to prominence with fellow Chicago drill artist Lil Bibby. Herbo released his debut mixtape “Welcome to Fazoland” in 2014 and shortly thereafter signed with Cinematic Music Group in 2015.  In 201g he was also featured on XXL’s Freshman cover. Despite his surroundings, G Herbo is one of the few Chicago drill rappers who’s kept a good head on his shoulders and preaches against gang activity. Herbo is curently working on a collaborative project with Bibby called “No Limitations” and his debut studio album “Humble Beast” is scheduled for release this year.

Last Thursday G Herbo headlined Brooklyn Bazaar with opener Kemba and Donmonique. All three artists were amazing, but it was clear who the crowd was there to see. Doors opened at 8 but if you didn’t get there early you most likely waited in line till 9:30 to get into the upstairs venue. New York fans went hard for the Chicago artist, more so than New York’s own Kemba and Donmonique. Kemba is known for his politically driven and thought-provoking rhymes, and warmed up the crowd before Donmonique took the stage. The crowd got slightly impatient towards the end of her set, chanting “Herbo! Herbo!” showing their love for the Chicago artist.

It’s customary for most concerts to have an unofficial designated moshing area, but this was the first show I’d ever been to where the entire audience was a mosh pit. I remember starting out near the center and ending up in a different area every time the crowd started to jump. The heat and close space added to everyone’s level of rowdiness and excitement and brought everyone closer together, literally. When Herbo finally took the stage the crowd went ballistic.

G herbo’s set consisted mostly of tracks from his recent “Strictly 4 My Fans” Mixtape. Herbo performed Run it Up, Something, Crazy and many more. He also played older tracks like No limit and the 2016 single Back on Tour, as well as his Hot N**** remix. The cozy little venue quickly turned into a trap house with fans dancing and rapping along verbatim to herb’s tracks.
