Read the reactions or listen to the podcast. It’s entirely up to you.

Dear Game of Thrones fans,

First off, an apology. For my lack of recaps the last few weeks and for the many many deaths of the last two incredible episodes. I’m truly sorry for our collective losses.

Now as recompense I have had the pleasure of being a guest on my dear pal Jon Barr’s television podcast Telly Buddies. It’s a solid hour of spoilerific talk including our thoughts about the season, it’s finest moments and a little pontification on the future. Check it out below:

Finally, I think it necessary that I succinctly sum up my thoughts on this season. It was good. Great at times, especially in the second half. Most the arcs felt like they wrapped up nicely by the end. Cersei on the throne is certainly going to change things. Arya back in Westeros after that shriek inducing kill. And while the Dany story hasn’t done much for me in seasons, the new combination of characters on those boats are sure to have intense repercussions.  Between Benjen and the flashbacks I’d have to say Bran’s discovery of his purpose was the most captivating sequence of moments in the season. To name a few other characters, I thought Tyrion got shafted, The Hound’s return was cool but what was the point, and the sand snakes were still meh. These weak points certainly affected the flow of the show.

Game of Thrones will never be the show it once was. And I’ve started to accept that. Season 6 did away with certain evils plaguing the show, and also leaves us wanting more. The path it need to walk was laid out. The handful of surprises were fun but the quality of moments like “hold the door” and The Battle of the Bastards are truly what this season will be remembered for. It’s hard to say what comes next, and that in itself is refreshing. Thanks for sticking the landing.
