On June the 18th, Disclosure brought their “Wild Life” tour to the Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. Special guestsΒ Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Mobb Deep, Dusky and Justin Jay delighted us with their music along with Disclosure themselves.
This incredible concert opened its doors at 4:30 p.m. and ended at 10 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., 22 year-old DJ Justin Jay opened up the concert. The crowd was just starting to arrive. His great relaxed mixes put everyone in a great mood and fed the energy needed as the crowd was easing into the show. Following his great set came London duo Dusky. This DJ duo has gained a good level of recognition during these last three years, leading them to play on many important electronic stages around the globe. With their set they were able to lure the audience in, whose energy kept raising with the beats.
As more and more people arrived, the sun began to go down, changing the mood and welcoming group Mobb Deep to theΒ stage. This hip-hop duo has been in the industry since the 80s. As they played their songs, people sang along and bumped their heads with the music. By this time, the ground floor of the stadium was almost full. Then came rapper and producer Anderson .Paak who was able to make people get on their feet, dance and rap. By the end of his set, 8:00 p.m., we were all pumped and ready for the main act.
At 8:30 p.m., with just a little bit of sunlight left, the stage lights began to flicker. It was a combination of white bright laser lights that flickered more intensely as time passed by. It was time for English duo Disclosure to come out!
The crowd roared as the two all black-clothed guys made their appearance. Each went to their respective DJ stationsΒ and their great hit βWhite Noiseβ began to play. One played the guitar, the other electronic drums, and the audiences screamed and sang along. Then came another of their great hits, βF For You.” The stage illuminated the audience every few seconds with the bright flickering lights. Next upΒ wasΒ “Magnets.”
If you are a big fan of Disclosure, being atΒ this concert was a dream come true. The visuals on the black screen behind the DJs were minimal including noise graphs, lines or their logo, but they went along with the aesthetic of the duo. The designΒ and colorsΒ changed as the concert progressed. Their amazing hits moved us to sing and dance without stop. Their set was not too complex and very electronically decorated, something Tron inspired.
After greeting the audience, they gave a pause and finally their song βOmen,” sang by Sam Smith, started playing. We were all sunk into the beats again, without wanting the music to ever stop. We heardΒ the audience singing almost as loud as the voice of Sam Smith.
As the night continued, they pleased the audience with songs from both their Settle and Caracal albums. Songs like βEchoes,” βHelp Me Lose My Mind,” βHolding On,” and βMoving Mountainsβ for which the singer Brendan Reilly made an appearance on stage.
To conclude the wonderful hours of raving, singing, and dancing, these English musicians gave us their most famous song “Latch.” We all sang trying to hold on to these last moments until finally the show came to an end.
