On August 5, 2010, a gold mine in Chile collapsed in Chile. 33 miners were left buried underneath 2000 feet of solid rock. This is their story.
At first glance, The 33 may not spark interest. After all, it is based on a true story that happened but 5 years ago. We obviously already know how the story is going to end. We all know that all the miners survive. The movie didn’t focus on what you already know though. Instead, the writers decided to focus on everything you didn’t know. The personalities of the miners, the full story of what was happening below ground, and above ground. Citing various media sources as well as the miners themselves, The 33Β shows the audience a wider picture, tackling aspects of the survival quest faced by the miners, the fight of their families and the unprecedented task that the rescue teams faced in order to rescue these men.
The movie ran 2 hours and 6 minutes long, however the story was captured and set in a way that the time seemed to fly by. Contrary to even our initial expectations, The 33 is a very good movie whether you’re into documentaries, suspense or even if you just want to watch something new this weekend.
