JONATHAN SIMKHAI presented his Spring / Summer ’16 collection at Milk Made Fashion Week this season, followed by an up close and personal tell-all Q&A moderated by blogger Micah Jesse in the American Express VIP Card Member Lounge.
As a top 10 designer of the CFDA Fashion Fund, Jonathan’s collection was highly anticipated by both celebrities [Kristen Stewart, Halston Sage, Emma Roberts] and fashion media alike. Front row we saw attendees Devon Windsor, Bella Thorne, and Halston Sage donning looks from Simkhai’s own Pre-fall and Resort ’15 collections.
In sync with many other runways this season, Simkhai’s presentation featured a sea of relaxed silhouettes, all white looks, and all over lace. While he incorporated many S/S ‘16 trends into his collection, Simkhai knows how to infuse his aesthetic in a very loud way.
Inspired by athletic practicality and the juxtaposition between the modern countryside look with the fast paced lifestyle of the city, outstanding details include scalloped skirt hems reminiscent of badminton birdie tails, and sheer polos featuring a styled peplum hem. The predominately white and black color palette was tied together with a touch of cornflower blue and a unique shade of salmon.
Look for look, SS ’16 offered a clear interpretation of Simkhai’s self proclaimed inspiration while staying 100% loyal to the JS girl. Special thanks to American Express for the invitation.
