A Night to Remember: Juilliard’s “Celebration” Benefit Performance and Party.

On Wednesday, February 5th, the iconic Juilliard School opened its doors to a dazzling array of talent and supporters for its annual benefit performance and party, aptly named “Celebration.” This event was a spectacular showcase of the best in classical and contemporary music, dance, and drama, all in support of Juilliard’s scholarship fund. With 90% of students relying on financial aid, the evening was not just a celebration of the arts but also a vital fundraiser for the future stars of the stage.

The performance featured a diverse group of performers – from renown stars to budding new talent. Guests had the honor of witnessing a plethora of performances directed by the visionary Pam Tanowitz. Not only did the shows feature a diverse range of talent from young students to those pursuing advanced degrees, the performances also harmonized various forms of musical endeavours into each set. There were orchestras and instrumental solos, as well as Shakespearean plays paired with contemporary dance.

Highlights included a unique 13-actor staging of scenes from Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town“, a mesmerizing Rachmaninoff movement performed by three pianists on a single instrument, and captivating dance pieces like José Limón’s “A Choreographic Offering” and Tricia Brown’s “Spanish Dance.” The finale, “The Best is Yet To Come” choreographed by Caili Quan and Robbie Fairchild, was filled with song and dance and accompanied by the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra. The energy was electric and each piece showcased the young artist’s talent and love for music. The audience were able to see the whimsical beauty of youth and talent emerge on the stay that night.

As the curtain fell on the performance, the celebration continued with a lively party headlined by the Juilliard Jazz Alumni Ensemble. Guests were invited to dance the night away, enjoying exquisite food and drinks curated by acclaimed chef Kwame Onwuachi of Lincoln Center’s award-winning Tatiana. The atmosphere was one of joy and camaraderie, as attendees mingled and celebrated the arts in style.
