A cozy yet candid conversation about the inclusion of women in sports [WNBA], the fashion world, and its growing impact.
From the fierce players to the eye-catching sponsorships, there’s no doubt that the visibility of the WNBA has increased tremendously throughout the year. But there’s one more factor that is contributing to this increased visibility: Fashion.
Watch Women Win, aka WWW Fireside chat moderated by Andraya Carter, with WNBA players and fashion stylists, get candid and dig deeper into how fashion has allowed the players to make big statements. “I love the evolution of what’s happened in fashion and the game,” former WNBA player Renee Montgomery shared while reflecting on the change from when she played back in 2009 to the league’s current time.
A well-curated look that embodies the personalities of these athletes becomes a striking fashion moment (known as the NBA tunnel walk) that creates buzz. Freelance Wardrobe Stylist Tosha Hartzog shares more about her impact as a stylist and how a look makes a statement to viewers to grow interest in the athlete but also creates opportunities in business when brands reach out for sponsorships.
“Through that [it] ties fans there, then [they] start relating to the athlete, then [they] want to start watching the athlete, now they’re coming to the games,” Hortzog shares, “It helps to build their brand [off] the court, it’s not just their salary as a player now we’re talking about brand deals, and now in this space that we [are] in, we’re even moving onto the retail side where clothing brands want to partner with these athletes.”
In an Instagram post, Andraya shares, “[We’ve] seen more style than ever, especially in the W, and so much goes to y’all!” in a recap post from the panel’s night.
The panel ended with refreshments and cocktails featuring Crown Royal and Crown Royal Apple, Guayakí, intimate debriefs and takeaways from the conversation, and a preview of the Layers V2 art exhibition.
