Enjoy the Trip!

I was happy to attend the screening of My Old Ass by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, which is one of the best settings for a screening and the perfect mood for an amazing Friday night.

We were able to enjoy VIP treatment that started with a golf cart ride and all the thoughtful touches, including popcorn and movie snacks, waiting for us on a personalized Cinespia blanket.

Depending on where you find yourself in life the film My Old Ass might hit you differently. Many times, we have wondered what piece of advice we would give our younger selves, or what questions we would ask our older selves. The film written and directed by Megan Park that premiered at Sundance will be out in September, and delves deep into those dynamics exploring the relationship between the younger self, the free-spirited Elliot (Maisy Stella), and her 39-year old self (Aubrey Plaza) after a mushroom trip.

The on-screen dynamic between Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella was great to watch from the beginning, and you just want to see more of it, as they give each other advice, while still leaving room for being surprised and enjoying it with all your heart.

If you identify more with the younger self and are still figuring out how to navigate life, it’s an interesting concept to question the expectations we have for ourselves and how we imagine our lives to unfold as we are growing up. If you are in your 30s and 40s, it’s more about looking back and seeing what you could have done differently throughout life – but also making the best of it with the time you have and not waiting to enjoy it another second!

This coming of age comedy is also bittersweet when you realize that life passes you by in the blink of an eye. Even the characters might say it’s better than therapy. It plays with time and how everything that you do when you’re 18 will affect your relationships for the rest of your life and the outcome of each interaction, which makes you appreciate the little things more. That time your mom asked you to do the dishes, or you had a family dinner that you wanted to skip to hang out with your friends, or when you could have spent more time with your brother – all those little moments add up in life.

In the end, it’s all about the people you love, and you need to make each day count because changes are inevitable, and they won’t be in your life forever. Living in the present is the best gift we have, and sometimes we forget that. It is a heartwarming film that invites you to reflect on your life choices and how you can make the best of each day.

It was interesting to see the different generations, their perspective, and the dynamics in between. Either way, the takeaways for me are to enjoy life to the fullest, make the best of every moment, and not take anything for granted. The things we take for granted might not be the same, as we get older or even next summer. So, it’s about being grateful for it all.

My Old Ass will be out in theaters September 13, 2024. Hope you enjoy the trip!
