New York, NY - 7/11/22: Taylor John Smith, Producer Reese Witherspoon, Producer Lauren Neustadter and Harris Dickinson at the World Premiere of Columbia Pictures and 3000 Pictures film "Where The Crawdads Sing" at MOMA.

Where the Crawdads Sing is based on a novel created by Delia Owens of the same name that follows the character Kya played by Jones. Her character was raised in the marshlands of North Carolina, where she lived with her parents and siblings. As the film progresses, viewers can see the emotional and physical abuse caused by her father, which ultimately leads to her being abandoned by her entire family. Forced to raise herself, Kya learns to survive at a young age into adulthood. Neglected, lonely, and judged by those within her community Kya grows a deep attachment to the marshes.

She soon develops a romantic connection with her childhood friend Tate, played by Smith. He teaches Kya how to read and write as they bond over their love for nature and animals. The relationship soon ends as Tate leaves for college, ultimately complicating their romantic storyline. Kya soon draws the attention of Chase, played by Dickinson, whose intentions are less than pure and cause her to be in fear for her life. After Chase is found dead, her community suspects her to be the killer, and as the case develops, viewers learn various secrets and facts about each character.
