Actor Anna Akana is starring in the Netflix series Jupiter’s Legacy based on the Mark Millar and Frank Quitely Image comic book series. Akana is best known for the YouTube Red mini-series “Youth & Consequences,” her feature in Netflix’s “Let It Snow,” ABC’s “A Million Little Things” and Comedy Central’s “Corporate.”
Akana has many talents but throughout her career, she has been vulnerable and open about her life challenges whether it’s through music or YouTube. With over 2.8 million engaged subscribers on her own YouTube channel, Akana is able to bring humor and a level of seriousness to a variety of topics.
Akana discusses the importance of mental health, racial discrimination for AAPI people and POC, issues surrounding bullying, gender equality, sexuality, and the necessity to have non-white female voices to contribute to the dialogue. Akana expresses that people who are experiencing mental health issues should seek help and talk to someone. She pointed out how much growth she see in this current generation openly admitting to having a therapist. Akana was then able to shed light on how identity builds character and encourages all people to constantly learn about themselves. Akana shares how identity can be difficult but it’s a freeing process when you keep trying to accept, embrace and love yourself despite life’s many challenges. She believes it’s a never-ending process and you should keep trying.
