January 24th, EPIX will premiere its new series “Bridge and Tunnel” written, directed, and produced by Edward Burns.

The show shows the lives of a group of Long Island friends chasing their dreams in Manhattan. The friends explore the challenges with transitioning into young adulthood, love, and heartbreak. The show takes place in the 1980 and captures the beauty of New York, life in Long Island, and all the potential the 80s presented.

The recent college grads have their entire lives ahead of them. Even though the show is set in the past the struggles of Jimmy, Jill, and their longtime friends are relatable to many of the experiences young adults are having today. Viewers will be able to see not just the strain post-grad life has on these lifelong relationships but the show also explores the question many graduates are forced to ask themselves after graduation: What am I going to do with the rest of my life?

The group of friends struggles with transitioning into their dream lives in Manhattan while wanting to hold onto the familiarity and comfort within their Long Island community. The term bridge and tunnel, which is what the title is derived from, refer to the communities surrounding Manhattan that commute into the island for work. The stars of the show Caitlin Stasey and Sam Vartholomeos play Jimmy and Jill and the chemistry they share on-screen shows through their friendship during their interview. Jimmy is a native Astorian and was able to rely on being a New Yorker for the role, but admittedly had never heard the phrase “bridge and tunnel” prior to joining the cast. However, his Australian co-star was familiar with the term from hearing it in films and in conversation.

The witty banter and jokes shared between the two actors show their true friendship off screen. Stasey and Vartholomeos discuss the beauty of the show and how it was shot and its ability to capture the beauty and feeling of New York not just in the 80s but even today.
