Zolee Griggs is a prolific actress who has just finished filming her newest movie, ‘Archenemy’. We caught up with her to talk about the film as well as her experience in the role of Indigo.
The Knockturnal: How do you describe the experience working on this movie?
Zolee Griggs: I’d describe it as challenging! This was a new environment for me considering I’ve never done an action movie, but I enjoy a challenge and I think it paid off because I learned a lot and had so much fun. Learning stunts, how to work with prop weapons, and kicking people’s ass is fun once you’ve learned the ropes!
The Knockturnal: What was it like working with Skylan Brooks?
Zolee Griggs: Skylan is such a sweetheart! Honestly, I was excited to work with him because I have seen some of his other work and was just happy that we had the chance to create our own bond and project together. I respect him. He’s very professional and just an overall cool person.
The Knockturnal: The “Russian Roulette” scene is one of the most intense scenes in the movie. How did you prepare yourself for that?
Zolee Griggs: Man, that scene was intense because there’s a lot going on, but I think what made it easy for me to play on was the fact I was working with Paul Scheer. I think he’s really talented and funny so a lot of energy I had built up was really nervousness of wanting to do good in my scene with him. Also, Indigo is in a lot of sticky situations like that, so it was just keeping that in mind but with a new character, like instead of me being nervous around the Manager, she’s nervous around Krieg.
The Knockturnal: How did you feel getting into Indigo’s mindset?
Zolee Griggs: I love Indigo because she’s a free spirit, but she’s adaptable. She had a lot of responsibility put on her at a young age, but she keeps herself youthful with her bright ideas in decorating herself, her house, etc. She means well and has a good heart, but has to put on a hard demeanor to survive which I can understand. I felt good being Indigo because at the end of the day all she wanted to do was provide for her family and that’s something I can relate to.

The Knockturnal: Could you describe how it felt when you got the callback for Archenemy?
Zolee Griggs: It was exciting because I took an immediate interest in being her. I had an idea of what her hair would look like, her clothes, how she’d be with her little brother, so it was exciting to be able to possibly bring this character to life. Also, it’s always fun to work with the directors in the room to get a better feel for what they want and all you can do is hope for the best. Let go & let God!
The Knockturnal: What was your first acting role like?
Zolee Griggs: I truthfully don’t remember. I was 4 years old and it was a cereal commercial. I just know I’ve always loved being on set because I’d meet so many people and craft services is always the bomb!
The Knockturnal: Could you describe your time on “Wu-Tang: An American Saga”?
Zolee Griggs: One of the best experiences of my life! I packed up my whole life and moved to a new state for six months which is something I’d never done before. Then being able to work so closely with legends was a blessing! I learned so much more about myself, the work I want to do, and character development on this set so I can’t wait to go back.

The Knockturnal: Are there any dream roles that you’d like to portray?
Zolee Griggs: I love Erykah Badu, if they ever do a biopic on her I need an audition!
The Knockturnal: Would you come back to the superhero genre in a later film?
Zolee Griggs: I’d love to. I want to continue exploring the world of being a superhero because who wouldn’t want to have superpowers. It’s fun living out these creative ideas people have and making them come to life, so I can only pray I get to play another superhero again!
The Knockturnal: Are there any new roles in the works?
Zolee Griggs: Nothing I can speak on at the moment, but Season 2 of Wu-Tang is in the works!
