Journee: I don’t really think my style was developed in San Jose. I think once I got to college, I really started to develop my look. I definitely glowed up from high school in college, so that little evolution of my look was quite severe.
Journee: My first music video was actually pretty simple. We rented out a spot in LA and shot about three scenes in the same room. We just used different parts of the room to make it look super complex. It was definitely fun and exciting to make and I also feel like it turned out pretty dope for being my first video.
The Knockturnal: What is it like to work with Billy J and K Mack?
Journee is an up and coming rapper fresh off of releasing her newest single, “It’s Not You, It’s Me”. We caught up with her to discuss her music and her time with 1801 Records.
The Knockturnal: What inspired you to get into music?
Journee: I was inspired at a pretty young age by my father, who actually used to rap. I feel like music runs in my family, so just being surrounded by music in my childhood inspired me to want to really get into it.

The Knockturnal: How did you feel when you got the call from Billy J and K Mack to join 1801 records?
Journee: I was super excited because I’ve had so many failed connections with previous managers and such. So, to get that call, and to know they were so established and serious made me feel like it was gonna be a great opportunity.
The Knockturnal: What is it like to work with Billy J and K Mack?
Journee: It’s definitely dope. We have a family-like relationship, so we’re able to communicate as such. They treat me like their little sister, so I hear it all: the good and the bad. Ultimately, I appreciate the relationship I have with them because we make a dope team together. They push me hard and they want to see me win because they believe in me so much.
The Knockturnal: What kind of community work are you involved with?
Journee: I hope to work with young girls on mental health and having the confidence they need to accomplish anything they want in life. Women are slowly taking over. I’m on a mission to continue the course.
