Discovery: Meet Soul Singer Kenya Jade From Toronto

It would be an understatement to say that Canada is adept at churning out crooners that can tap into their personal ether with a special fierceness.

While the pop charts are filled with everything from Justin Bieber‘s particular brand of bouncy ballads or The Weeknd‘s airy but primal brand of dark stadium R&B, it also produces serious singers like the grammy award-winning Daniel Caesar and megastar Michael Bublé. Must be something in the water. Regardless of what it is, it seems there’s no shortage of new and emerging talent that’ll tickle your inner Clive Davis quite like this new discovery.

Meet Kenya Jade from Toronto, who is a budding singer-songwriter with a dynamite voice. They say talented singers are born but it’s the work ethic that separates the good from the greats. Kenya Jade’s deep raspy voice is the first sign of her talent on full display, but it’s her poetic lyrics which will swift you off your feet. If you were to combine Amy Winehouse & Adele, Kenya Jade would be it.

Being a veteran storyteller, poet and philosopher Kenya’s music is about connecting through honest, and sometimes uncomfortable but common narratives. Her songs carry a layer of emotion and intimacy which she brought with her for her live performance in a loft space in Toronto’s warehouse district this past winter. Performing her original songs from her first EP “I Am”, inspired by MTV’s 1990’s “Unplugged” series, she showcased the depth of her musical talent.

“There’s a kind of magic that happens when you share your music. It’s felt on the greatest level when you get up on stage, face to face with your listener and exchange energy that comes from you choosing to be vulnerable. The “I Am: Live” captures every bit of it. It was a special chance to share who I am, in all of my truth and imperfection. I truly leave it all in the music; every detail, every story, every raw feeling. My music is an arrangement of my inner life.” says Kenya Jade.

Listen to her marquee album “I Am” above and keep up with her updates via her insta.
