New York, NY (February 10, 2020) โ In February, a number of lucky designers based all across Asia had the opportunity to present their collections at the collective runway presentation for CADA: Council of Asian Designers in America.
2Madison Avenue by Maggie Hutauruk Eddy
Taking place in New York Cityโs Chinatown to the presentation showcased all kinds of different styles, colors, and textures, highlighting new and eccentric styles for their own individual collections. They stand out from the typical Winter collections with their bright colors and bold styles, rewriting the rules of what winter style typically is. The collections highlighted sustainability each in their own individual ways.
The designs ranged from gowns to street style prices, some sporting sustainable materials, each proving a point about requesting the rules of fashion. ย Bettie Kim & Bo Zhaoโs collection sported a series of eccentric evening-wear, full of all white pieces. The itinerary? White is always in, and you should absolutely wear it after Labor Day. Each white piece was completed with custom embroidery and sequins, with attention to detail at itโs finest.
Bingyao Chengโs collection certainly wasnโt just white in color but made a statement as well. Her collection, appropriately titled โCreative Fun,โ was made up of functional, waterproof and windproof material with fluorescent and bright rainbow colors, making for a colorful, chrome look. The pieces are as unique as they are beautiful, and will stand out on any runway.
London-based designer Shuai Zeng based her collections, โUkiyoeโ and โCommensalismโ on beautiful Chinese art that sheโd come across. Her designs are abstract and colorful, sending messages about the magnitude of self expression and โexpress that the objects live in one body.โ Zengโs collections stand out above the rest with their aestheticism and incredible designs.
Zeng wasnโt the only one who was inspired by Chinese Art. Designer Yiyi Kwok based designs on theย traditional Chinese lion dance. Implementing bright colors, neon pinks, blues and greens, the designs were a beautiful representation of the dance, and they were brought to the runway just in time for Chinese New Year.
Chun Han used pearl strings and sultry undertones to create a unique look on winter fashion and evening wear. His collection had beautiful designs and unique tailoring for both womenโs and menโs wear, giving a new look to the traditional winter collection.
Maggie Hutauruk Eddy and her collection โSecond Madison Avenueโ promotes activism, as it is recycled and sustainable. Its primary colors were yellow and electric blue, and they were made from recycled fabrics and materials. Not to mention the repurposed denim, vegan furs and 3-D laces included, making this a unique and incredibly important look to have. Yi-Ting Leeโs collection, โCharacters complete Charactersโ took a spin on traditionalist, repurposing traditional Chinese elements into brilliantly eye-catching new designs. Chinese menswear designer Ruojing Wang incorporated vibrant colors of wool for his collection โAnesthetize.โ
