Maksim Chmerkovskiy Helped Celebrate Swiffer’s 18th Birthday [Exclusive Interview]

On Thursday, March 16, Swiffer teamed up with “Dancing with the Stars” favorite, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and #adulting expert, Kelly Williams Brown to celebrate Swiffer’s 18th birthday with a special appearance by Hannah Simone from New Girl!

Swiffer swept the nation by storm in 1999 and this year the brand is celebrating its 18th birthday. Now 18 itself, Swiffer is on a mission to show consumers that while #adulting is hard, Swiffer makes it easy!

The birthday bash taught guests how Swiffer, now an “adult” itself, can help you nail those key #adulting moments – like dancing your way to a quick, clean home! With 24 seasons on DWTS, a newborn son with co-star Peta Murgatroyd, and a Broadway production under his belt, Maksim Chmerkovskiy has had an amazing year. We caught up with him at Swiffer’s 18th anniversary party to find out more on his upcoming projects and his new life as a father. Catch more below:

On New Fatherhood:

“It’s been amazing, it’s been super stressful and then one day it just stopped being stressful and it sort of evened out a little bit and now it’s just super fun. You know we worked our entire life to have this time be set up a certain way and you know I was raised with my brother in my shitty apartment in Brooklyn, you know Peta came from no money also. So we both know that it’s possible, not probable but possible to raise kids the right any anywhere, in any environment, we just didn’t want to have an ‘any’ environment. We wanted to be set, we wanted to be financially secure, we wanted to have the best help that we could get, that does not mean that we just want to give our baby away to some babysitter and just go about doing our stuff, no, she’s breastfeeding, I’m his father, we’re there every waking moment. But we now have the opportunity to get back to our normality and balance everything out so we’re just living out our dream, knock on wood, and everything is amazing right now.”

On celebrating Swiffer’s 18th birthday:

“This happened so organically I didn’t know Swiffer was celebrating it’s 18th birthday. It’s a big deal and it’s a milestone for just any business venture, let alone with their success. But you know, 18 is also the year that you enter adulthood and ‘adulting’ is the word that is being used around here, something that I thought I was for many years already and then when I had a baby I realized that I was a baby myself until that moment. So when that moment came and I had a kid in my arm and some spill happens and you look around … I just know with my baby if there’s a spill, you grab the swiffer stick and you’re done. So, I remember when Peta was nesting in her like 9th month of pregnancy and I was just making runs to like Home Depot and I’ve never been to home depot before then maybe like twice. All of a sudden this was like a daily occurrence, I was just fixing things and hanging up curtains. But the first item I grabbed  — I just walked into a home appliance store and I looked around and the first thing that I grabbed was the Swiffer sweeper, the one that you dust with, it was amazing and it just does the job.”

Upcoming projects:

“’Dancing with The Stars’ comes back Monday. We’ve worked so hard to make sure it did happen the right way. I’m excited for Peta to make a return and last year this time she won and now she’s a new Mom coming back in a very, very short time so it’s like all eyes on her. I have a great partner so we’re going to do good. Summer time is something that we’re working on right now, my brother and I have had a very successful tour last summer. The Max and Val show ‘Our Way’ and so we’re working on a few projects for that period of time and I just opened my 9th location of our dancing studios in Las Vegas this time, there’s another three, or four that we’re working on in Texas and Chicago and around the country so it’s a lot of fun stuff.”
