This past weekend Disney On Ice brought the magic of Frozen and Encanto to life at Barclays Center in Brooklyn with world-class ice skating. Audiences saw Anna, Elsa, Mirabel, and the Madrigal family live, along with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and some of your favorite princesses like Moana and Ariel.
As a self-prescribed Disney Adult with no kids, I have experienced Disney World, Disneyland,d, and Disney On Broadway sans kids throughout my 20’s and 30s. As we entered Barclays Center on a snowy day in New York, the magic began to take over, filling the air and making you feel like a kid again. Speaking of kids, there were a lot! I would say that we were some of the very few that were there without children, but it didn’t matter! All of the kiddos were dressed so cute and pumped to watch their favorite characters skate around the ice. We grabbed a beer and some popcorn and sought out our seats.
There was truly no bad seat in the house since they blocked off the higher levels. The adventure began in Arendelle with Anna and Elsa’s journey to bring back summer. The scenes were absolutely stunning and all of the characters were in tow, even a life-size Sven the reindeer. We joined the race to find Elsa and stop the eternal winter, dreamt of summer with Olaf, and sang along with Kristoff. Kids and adults alike lost their minds when Let It Go was performed.
A brief intermission gave us time to check out the cute photobooths with background scenes from both stories and of course, shop the pop-up stores with everything from light-up toys to an Olaf nose.
After stretching our legs, we journeyed to Colombia’s enchanted town of Encanto. Fans got to see the incredible talents of the Madrigal family, including Mirabel, Isabela, Luisa, and the weather-controlling Pepa. With music by the legendary Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show reminded us that everyone’s unique gifts make them special, and love is the greatest magic of all. There was fire, aerial stunts, and even twerking donkeys.
The big finale brought out OG Disney characters including the one and only, Minnie and Mickey. The whole room went wild to see their favorite princesses beautifully skate around the rink. Disney on Ice is in other cities and tickets can be purchased on Ticketmaster.com or at the venue’s box office. You can even enhance your ticket with a preshow featuring Elsa and Mirabel, where you can enjoy music, games, crafting, and photo opportunities.
