The Mahalia Jackson story journeys through her life and challenges all while thriving to the top. In an exclusive interview, Wendy Raquel Robinson who co-stars in the film, talks more about her role playing the gospel mogul’s best friend.
The film premiered on April 19th, at the 30th Annual Pan African & Arts Festival (PAAF). In the latest biopic of the prominent singer, it gives us an insight into the life and legacy of Mahalia Jackson. In addition to learning about her life, and the impactful role she has contributed to this musical genre, the film also depicts her inner circle and those who were dedicated to empowering her. One of these significant individuals was her best friend, Celestine, played by Wendy Raquel Robinson. Despite her strengths, Celestine’s friendship with the singer is an example of the importance of having a friend who is a “confidant”, as Wendy says. Contrary to her other roles, Wendy talks more about taking on a much more serious role, her experience on set, learning about Celestine’s relationship to the singer, additional things she has learned about the gospel mogul, and her overall experience creating this biopic and contributing to the life and legacy of Mahalia Jackson.
