Walt Disney Animation Studios Partnered with Co- Founders of Kugali Media to Create ‘Iwájú’ 

Walt Disney Animation Studios partnered with Pan-African comic book entertainment company, Kugali Media to create the animated series Iwájú. 

In a remarkable collaboration between two companies, a groundbreaking venture has come to life. The project, called Iwájú, takes place in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, where viewers witness the extraordinary journey of Tola, a young girl from a privileged household, and her closest ally, Kole, a self-taught tech genius. They embark on a journey that leads them to uncover the concealed secrets and lurking dangers that exist within their different worlds.

The creators of Iwájú, Kugali Media co-founders Olufikayo “Ziki” Adeola, Hamid Ibrahim, and Tolu Olowofoyeku, have produced an enthralling and visually stunning futuristic portrayal of Lagos, Nigeria in their work. The city is depicted with a vibrant and lively palette of colors that paint a rich and immersive atmosphere, while its unique visual elements and intricate technological advancements are a testament to the creators’ imaginative vision. The strikingly beautiful portrayal of Lagos is inspired by the city’s dynamic and vibrant spirit, and the creators have done an excellent job of capturing its essence in their work.

The Knockturnal spoke with Adeola, Ibrahim, and Olowofoyeku about this series and their experience working with Walt Disney Animation Studios on this project. Iwájú is now available exclusively on Disney+.
