Vivica A. Fox Talks New OWN Holiday Movie ‘A Christmas For Mary’

OWN will kick off their 2020 holiday movie season with the premiere of ‘A Christmas For Mary” on Tuesday (December 8th).

The movie stars Vivica A. Fox as a magazine editor and the movie follows a young rising journalist played by Morgan Dixon who journeys to the small town of Pineville where she discovers a forgotten story of young love which leads her on a path of finding her own love story as she races to finish her assignment by Christmas. Fox also served as executive producer and the film co-stars Jackée Harry. During an OWN For the Holidays press conference, The Knocturnal had a chance to ask Fox about her role in the film.

“When I thought of my character who was the magazine editor of Vibrant Magazine I was definitely inspired by back in the day the editor of Essence Magazine Susan Taylor who represented such class and dignity and so that was what I definitely was inspired by,” Fox told The Knockturnal about whether she drew inspiration from real-life magazine editors for her role. Fox further elaborated about Dixon’s character being inspired by a real-life journalist, “I can’t answer for Morgan Dixon because I’m gonna tell you when she first got there she got the part and they flew her in from Baltimore and she was a little starstruck at first. She was like I can’t believe I was in Baltimore yesterday and now I’m sharing a set with Vivica Fox. I said baby relax and make sure you know them lines, now come on. And she did.” Vivica also expressed her pleasure in regards to working with Dixon saying, “She was lovely, she radiants goodness and a bright future. I adored working with Morgan.”

The following week on December 15th OWN will premiere its second-holiday movie of the season, a film titled ‘Cooking Up Christmas’ which stars Lamman Rucker and Meagan Holder. On December 22nd, OWN will air ‘First Christmas’, starring Idara Victor and Tonea Stewart. The network kicked off the holiday season with its first-ever gospel music special Our OwN Christmas which was hosted by Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin on December 1st and featured performances by The Clark Sisters, Kierra Sheard, Ne-Yo, Boyz II Men, and Erica Campbell.
