What are you doing this weekend in New York City? There’s a lot happening.
Along with a presence at the New York International Auto Show, going on now, Volkswagen of America has revealed its schedule of events for Earth Day Initiative’s Earth Day 2022 celebration at Hudson Yards in New York City. You’re invited to participate in the three day event, taking place from Friday, April 22nd through to Sunday, April 24th, 2022 at The Shops at Hudson Yards, over on the west side.
The Earth Day celebrations are a partnership with Hudson Yards and The Earth Day Initiative and will feature exhibits from environmental nonprofits and sustainable businesses in order to promote environmental awareness and showcase solutions on how the public can tackle the climate crisis.
This event also marks the first time that the ID. Buzz, Volkwagen’s electric reimagining of the iconic Microbus, will be on display to the public in New York City, where you’ll be able to be up-close-and-personal with the long-awaited vehicle. The automaker’s new electric van that will support the goal to become a carbon-neutral business by 2050. Additionally, guests will be able to view the all-electric SUV, the ID.4, in a special Earth Day-themed print created by New York-based illustrator, muralist and designer, Steffi Lynn.
Along with the electric vehicles on view, guests can witness, among other conversations, a pre-recorded Earth Day discussion between Volkswagen of America President and CEO Scott Keogh and Alysia Reiner, actress (Egg, Orange is the New Black) and Earth Day Initiative Advisory Board member, which will be playing throughout the weekend at Hudson Yards. Other exhibitions include a zero-waste weaving activity with Weaving Hand, a femme, Filipinx-run weaving studio, and an opportunity to experience Grouphug, an at-home window solar panel for charging devices purely by the power of the sun (even Mark Cuban was sold on it).
If that’s not enough, there are other activities happening all over Hudson Yards this weekend, including performances such as “A New Generation Sings for Sustainability: Young Singers Lift Their Voices in Solidarity with Our Earth,” coordinated by Cassie Okenka (School of Rock, Wicked); discussions of the latest trends in sustainable fashion, guided meditation sessions with Allison Strickland, eco-friendly foods from Ana Bar & Eatery, and even earth-forward cocktails from Wild Ink.
