The Movie “Breaking’s” Cast Interviews Featuring Actress Nicole Beharie and Director Abi Damaris Corbin

When asking talented Director Abi Damaris Corbin about what drew her interest in creating the vision for this specific true story feature in the movie “Breaking”, she gave a compassionate and personal response – “it was a transformative thing for me to write and be a part of too, because I gained a greater level of empathy for my dad.”

She passionately continues, “I gained a greater empathy for his friends, for the people that I walk past on the street, and understanding a little bit more of what its like to walk in their shoes, and I really hope that as our audience leaves, they’ll say ‘hold on, what can I do where I am, to do right by people?” Director Corbin uses the empathy and compassion she feels for the lives of our Vets post-war, and transforms her pain into purpose. She creates her art as a call to action and activism, and as a way for the audience to emotionally humanize mental health issues, especially for the military community.

In the captivating trailer, Lead Actor, John Boyega, who plays the real-life person, Brian Brown Easley, shouts at the police and news over the phone saying, “I don’t want the bank’s money! What do I need to do to get the attention that I need right now?!” The film showcases a bigger picture of our former and present military members, needing more emotional and mental support from the system and government, in order to live thriving lives. Director Corbin said a touching statement during our interview – “I read the [news] article, and my heart was broken, straight up, just broken open. In it, I saw a lot of my dad’s story, my dad’s a vet, and I just didn’t want it to have to happen again in 30 years.” Hopefully viewers walk away from the movies with a new sense of awareness and motivation, to help create change in the upcoming years for our military.
