Soak in the New York City Skyline and Innovative Cocktails at HB Rooftop

There’s no shortage of rooftop bars in New York City for open-air drinking, mingling, and eating. But, one standout is HB Rooftop—Midtown Manhattan’s newest sky-high cocktail bar that is serving some of the most original drinks with alluring birds-eye views of the New York skyline.

Located at 346 West 40th Street, take an elevator inside the lobby of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel to the 37th floor to reach the HB Rooftop, a no-fuss and casual venue with swanky, old school vibes and the most cozy velvet sofas. The 4,000 square foot glass-enclosed lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows, indoor and garden-style outdoor seating, and 270-degree views of Hudson Yards, Port Authority, and the Empire State Building—just the right setting for sipping expertly made cocktails from award-winning mixologist David Choi.

One of the top cocktails that Choi expertly creates at HB Rooftop is the Avión De Papel, a whimsical take on the classic Paper Plane made with Illegal Mezcal, Mijenta Reposado, Aperol, Amaro Montenegro, fresh lemon juice, and agave. The drink is sweet and has a delightful balance of refreshing flavors. The sweetness softens the stronger notes of the alcohol, and it’s absolutely tasty. We highly recommend ordering this, especially for warm weather nights. The Avión De Papel is also garnished with a real, miniature paper plane for guests to write uplifting notes or their wishes.

Another standout cocktail is the Sakura Sour, which consists of Hibiki Japanese Whisky, fresh lemon juice, house-made cherry blossom syrup, and egg whites. Not only is the beverage sublime and refreshing, but the vibrant pink color and creative garnish make it visually appealing and enhance the drinking experience. HB Rooftop also serves excellent zero-proof cocktails, and the Yuz A Lyre—made with Lyre’s NA Gin, Yuzu juice, elderflower syrup, honey syrup, and Fever Tree club soda—is a winner.

Rounding out HB Rooftop’s menu are delectable shareable bites. The truffle Parmesan fries for $12 are a must-order. The crispy golden fries are tossed in truffle oil, Parmesan, and fresh herbs. Due to the rich, earthy flavor of truffle oil and the salty, savory taste of Parmesan cheese, the combination creates a sophisticated and indulgent experience that elevates your cocktails. We also recommend getting the $18 Cob Fish Tacos, which consist of three mini tacos served with mango salsa, cabbage slaw, and cilantro crema.

HB Rooftop sets the stage for a fun night out in New York, especially during the Summer season. Due to their rooftop lounge, al fresco dining is possible, and guests can enjoy a memorable experience with expertly made cocktails, wonderful food, and sweeping views. If you’re a visitor or a local, make a trip to HB Rooftop. It’s worth it.
