Valentine’s season in New York is all about love, connection, and if you know where to go for some of the best cocktails in the city. On February 13, I had the pleasure of attending Desolas Mezcals Valentine Mezcalita Night at Le Jardiniers Bar Bastion, a chic soiree that set the perfect tone for both Galentine’s and Valentine’s celebrations.
Hosted at 610 Lexington Ave, this intimate gathering blended sophistication, premium mezcal, and a vibrant crowd, making it an unforgettable evening.
A Toast to Desolas Mezcal
Desolas Mezcal, a female-founded brand and the 2024 NYSWC Best of Class winner, crafted an experience that was as refined as its signature spirit. Unlike the heavily smoked mezcals many are familiar with, Desolas is made from 100% agave, a rare variety grown in the arid hills of San Luis Potos, Mexico. The result? A mezcal that is fresh, earthy, and delicately smoky ”perfect for those who appreciate complexity in their cocktails.
The cocktail menu for the night highlighted the unique character of Desolas. The Kiss From a Rose blended mezcal with beet juice, strawberry puree, and spicy salt, creating an earthy yet slightly sweet drink with just the right amount of boldness. Love on the Rocks, also called Amour de Violette, was light, floral, and effervescent, offering a smoky twist that lingered beautifully. Finally, Cupids Mezcalita was a smoky yet playful take on a classic margaritas ”refreshing and made for romance.
Each sip was a testament to the craftsmanship behind Desolas, proving why it continues to stand out in the mezcal world.
An Atmosphere of Connection
What truly made the night special wasn’t just the mezcal, it was the people. As a Black writer, I often step into spaces where inclusion feels like an afterthought. But here? I felt seen, welcomed, and appreciated. The women behind the event didn’t just serve great drinks; they curated an environment of genuine conversation, warmth, and connection.
GG Mirvis, the brand’s founder, took the energy a step further… she wasn’t just hosting, she was DJing. Her setlist matched the sophistication of the venue, blending soulful beats with just the right amount of bass, setting the perfect backdrop for new connections and flirtatious fun.
