Sam MacPherson Talks Growing Up in New Single “Safe to Say”

It is “Safe to Say” that upcoming musician Sam MacPherson is here to stay. His new single “Safe to Say” is out now on all streaming platforms!

Sam MacPherson, a New Jersey native, has much to say about growing up and the trials and tribulations of life in your twenties in his new single “Safe to Say.” MacPherson’s authentic artistry and knack for digging deep into his music allow his music to feel genuinely sincere. Alongside his frequent collaborator Adam Yaron, MacPherson crafted a beautiful song full of guitar-driven melodies and a sweeping bridge make this song a perfect choice to sing in the car, the shower, or alongside your friends. He recently announced that he would be embarking on his first-ever headline tour across North America this spring, which delighted his loyal fanbase! Entitled the “Powerlines Tour,” the tour kicks off in Washington, D.C., on Monday, April 17, and stops in multiple major cities before culminating in Los Angeles on Friday, May 19, at the famed Troubadour.

The Knockturnal had the chance to sit down with Sam and discuss his recently released single, inspirations, and the upcoming artist’s future plans.

The Knockturnal: Hi Sam! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Sam MacPherson: My name’s Sam MacPherson and I am originally from Red Bank, New Jersey, but live in LA now. I’m an artist, songwriter, and producer.

The Knockturnal: How did you originally get into music? Do you have any big musical role models?

Sam MacPherson: My dad is a musician and songwriter, and my mom always had the best taste in music, so I feel like I’ve grown up with and through their musical favorites. A lot of my influences come from records that soundtracked my upbringing.

The Knockturnal: How does it feel to be doing your first headlining tour? Any nerves or just plain old-fashioned excitement?

Sam MacPherson: I’m really just excited to meet the people who have been so generous with their support. It’ll be nice putting names to faces and thanking people for being there for me, mostly from afar the past few years. I’m purely excited.

The Knockturnal: I know in the past you’ve collaborated with amazing musicians such as Stephen Sanchez, Jonah Kagen, Garrett Nash, VINCINT, and Quinn Lewis. Are there any other collaborations in your future?

Sam MacPherson: I’m always writing, so the answer to that is yes most definitely.

The Knockturnal: Who would be your dream collab?

Sam MacPherson: I’d love to work with Lennon Stella, and one day she’s going to read one of these interviews and give me a call. SZA would also be amazing. I think she’s a genius and I love everything about what she’s doing now and what’s she’s been doing for the last 3-4 years

The Knockturnal: I love your new song “Safe to Say”, did you have anything specific that sparked the inspiration for it?

Sam MacPherson: I think just growing up and realizing that I want to bet on and lean on the people in my life more. I think being in your twenties comes with an ever-growing list of uncertainties and it can feel lonely at times. Having someone you love in your life to ground you makes the confusion of growing up seem less like a haunted house and more like a perpetual adventure.

The Knockturnal: Lastly, what’s up next for you? Anything new on the horizon?

Sam MacPherson: Just a headline tour in 20 cities! And a ton of music before then and to follow. An exciting couple months ahead for sure.
