Riboli Family Wine Estates kicked off spring in NYC with a chic wine and cheese event on Wednesday, April 11th.
The gathering of invited guests commenced in New York’s Flatiron District at Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, a beautiful glass-walled cheesemaking kitchen with an industrial feel.
In operation since 1917, the California-based family business has only recently arrived on the scene in New York, enthusiastic to introduce their delicious high-end quality wines at an affordable price. As global industry leaders, the Ribolis have been creating award-winning wines for over a century. Their dedication to the craft has caught the attention of The New York Times, Wine Enthusiast, Food & Wine, and many more.
This month they unveiled a luscious wine showcase highlighting six of their award-winning wines: the tropical aromatic Maddalena Chardonnay 2015, followed by a layered Maddalena Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, San Simeon Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, San Simeon Pinot Noir 2016, Opaque Darkness Red 2014, and my personal favorite, the bright Rosa 22 Aperitivo. Each wine was thoughtfully paired with delectable complementary cheeses.
Anthony Riboli, a fourth-generation winemaker at the company, addressed the lively satiated crowd halfway through the night. Riboli enthralled with an account of how the small family business stayed afloat in spite of the Prohibition Era of the 1920s. The Riboli family legacy was preserved through the devout Catholicism of founder Santo Cambianica. While the other wineries around them fell desolate, RFWE kept its doors open by providing communion wine for the Catholic church throughout the 1920s. Divine intervention, perhaps?
When asked about the goal of the company’s expansion, Anthony said, “The idea is really to just control the process [of winemaking]. Our goal is to make high-end wines affordable; $20 to $30 dollars a bottle.”
Keep your eyes out for the Riboli Family Wine Estates. Their well-balanced repertoire of wines will be spreading through the East Coast before you know it, bringing a complex flavor experience to you without breaking the bank.
