The Knockturnal had the privilege of attending “The Long Game” premiere based on Humberto G. Garcia’s novel, “Mustang Miracle”. The story takes place in 1956 in Del, Rio Texas where JB (played by Jay Hernandez) takes a job as a superintendent.
In reality, JB moves to Del Rio with another motive, which is to join the prestigious country club called the Del Rio Golf Club, in which historically all the members have been white. Despite his skill as a player and a recommendation from his pro-golfer friend Frank Mitchell (played by Dennis Quaid), JB gets denied entry to the club based on his skin color. Rather than letting this experience discourage him, JB is inspired to start the first Latino golf team at his high school made up of caddies from the club that denied him entry.
Together, they navigate challenges of discrimination and societal expectations, learning important lessons about teamwork and perseverance. This inspiring drama is in theaters now!
The premiere took place in Los Angeles, at the Ricardo Montalban Theater. After the viewing, the venue had a fun surprise set up behind the projector, a Top Golf game. Each cast member in attendance showed off their golf swing. Then the guests and the cast headed to the outdoor rooftop of the theater where the celebration began. The guests indulged in tacos and fun drinks served in mini flamingos. The dance floor on the rooftop was crowded the entire evening, and everyone had so much fun celebrating the Long Game!
