The Knockturnal attended the Outfest Legacy Awards on Saturday night at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
The night honored Hollywood’s finest who have made noticeable strides in LGBTQ film and television. Proceeds from the event benefit the Outfest Forward young filmmaker and professional education courses, screenwriting lab, leadership training, trans-acting workshop, and Outfest UCLA Legacy Project film restoration and preservation program.
With a red carpet, award show, and stunning gala venue, the night was certainly one for the books. On the carpet, The Knockturnal caught up with a few stars such as Garrett Clayton, Nicky Champa and Pierre Crespeau.
“We love being a part of the LGBTQ+ community and celebrating film and everything. We’re here to support and celebrate all together,” said Champa.
Champa and Crespeau, who are content creators for Snapchat also spoke directly about their partnership with the social media app. “We’re just excited that the industry is embracing this new wave of creating. We’re so excited that we can share ourselves and our relationship,” Champa said.
Crespeau added: “We love that we can live our love story freely. We just love each other and we love that we can just live and be happy in this environment.”
Later in the night, Marvel Studios’ president of physical and postproduction, visual effects and animation production Victoria Alonso delivered a passionate speech about LGBTQ+ equality and visibility. In reference to her work at Marvel, Alonso said: “We have tried to stir it up and sometimes the critics are not with us. That’s OK. That’s OK.”
Alonso, who was the receipent of Outfest’s Visionary Award continued: “We thank you for being a critic. We thank you for writing about us. And the fans will decide. Diversity and inclusion is not a political game for us. It is 100 percent a responsibility because you don’t get to have the global success that we have given the Walt Disney Company without the support of people around the world of every kind of human there is.”
The awards ceremony was followed by stunning dinner on the Dolby Terrace.
