On The Scene: Lola Kirke Headlines Berlin Under A in New York City

You might know her from her appearance in the critically acclaimed Mozart in the Jungle, David Fincher’s Gone Girl, Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America, Broken Diamonds, BJ Novak’s new FX series The Premise and more! This week, we saw her in her role as singer-songwriter with Third Man Records.

Lola Kirke showcased songs from her upcoming sophomore album at Berlin in New York City. The show kicked-off with Nashville rockers The Love-In.  Kirke discovered her love for music at a young age and since then has travelled with her guitar from dressing room to dressing room. She felt a strong connection to the country-rock sound that was defined by Gram Pasons and the Cosmic American genre he spearheaded.

Her performance was one of pure talent and contagious charisma that resonated in the audience, proven by the encore that ended the night. That’s not to take away from the extremely talented opening band, the Love-In, who set the stage for that high level energy. It was hard to not groove along to these Nashville beats that took over the intimate venue in the East Village. The artists showcased their sets at a popular event space known as, Berlin. A space that boasts up and coming talent bursting with potential.

Lola Kirke has been recognied by a number of well-renowned publications, like the New York Times who  described her as, “Rollicking and guitar-driven, overlaid with her lilting, smoky voice…” and The Rolling Stone who acclaimed that she was “Full of twangy guitars and Kirke’s breathy vocals, [‘Monster’] is a declaration of wanting to fit into the world.”

With music that had relatable lyrics and moments the crowd loved was testament to the fact that she has a world of success that awaits her, in the wake of releasing her album on May 3rd 2022.
