On The Scene: Drive-In Premiere for ‘The Place of No Words’

It felt different driving through rush hour traffic in Los Angeles on a Tuesday evening to go to a Drive-In Film Premiere.

You know we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, but we still have human needs. One, in particular, stood out tonight: connection. Partly because I was on a date, but mainly because The Place of No Words centers around the question, “where do we go when we die?” There’s no right or wrong answer to this. It’s up for debate or in this case, artistic expression.

As we drove into the “movie theater” at the Hollywood Palladium we were greeted with a bag of popcorn, candy, and fruit-infused water.

This added to the movie-going experience as we talked and laughed in our cars. Before the movie got started, we got a chance to hear directly from the cast. Writer, director, and lead actor, Mark Webber along with actresses Phoebe Tonkin and Nicole Berger did a great job introducing and explaining the work of realistic fantasy film art they created.

Guests including actress Erika Christensen (Parenthood), Will McCormack (Celeste and Jesse Forever, Toy Story 4), Selling Sunset’s Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bennet, Emily Arlook (Grown-ish), Jessica McNamee (Packed to the Rafters), musician Cole Manes and Marianna Palka (Good Dick) literally drove down the red carpet for the viewing of the realistic fantasy film.

The clock hit 7:30 pm and the film started to roll. We turned up the radio to listen in to the audio and pushed our seats back. I don’t know where we go when we die, but I do know life in the middle of a pandemic isn’t so bad after all.

The Event was produced by A-list Communications as part of their Pop-Up Drive in Premiere series.
