On The Scene: Advanced Screening of ‘Wheeler’

The multifaceted Stephen Dorff’s full skillset was on display Friday night at the advanced screening of his upcoming film Wheeler.

Actor Stephen Dorff has played many roles, but it was clear that there was a common passion between he and the titular character he played that added an unparalleled value to the film. Wheeler, a documentary style, Country music film follows Dorff’s character who leaves a life of small town living to chase his musical dream.

Traveling to Nashville with his friends, the talented Wheeler humbly takes the city by storm. The rich and easily relatable songwriting by Wheeler stole the hearts of Nashville and the audience with stand out tracks such as “Fever” and “She’s Only 20.” Dorff’s acting chops were on full display in the film, triumphantly emulating himself into the music culture, on location with real people having real conversations.

The screening room of The Crosby Street hotel set the tone for what was to be a momentous night for Dorff who also co-wrote and created original music for the film as well. Following the screening, he and co-star Bobby Tomberlin graced the crowd with a special performance of some of the songs from the films soundtrack including single “Pour Me Out of This Town” which is available now on iTunes.

Dorff quietly sat in the back of the theater, watching the reaction of the audience that was too engaged in his work to notice his presence. On screen playing a character all too similar to himself, flaunting a passion and talent that stems from Dorff’s own musical background. Dorff seemed to be a fish in water on the stage once he hit his stride, shining vibrantly – only moments after bashfully tracking through the start of his post-screening performance with a minor pause and a smile – meeting much praise and acclaim from those in attendance.

It all starts with a song. You can catch the captivating journey of Wheeler’s quest for inner peace and self-discovery when he rides into theaters February 3rd, 2017.
